Über die Veranstaltung

Join me, Caroline Ritter, and my colleagues Leonhard Grond and Toni* Riegler for a transformative weekend:

Field Studies in Movement - A Feldenkrais Retreat

On this summer weekend, we will use the clear framework of the Feldenkrais Method to explore new angles of perception and movement.

Through guided movement experiments, we will dive deep into the essential, native qualities of our conduct.

In doing so, we uncover the freedom that exists not only in action but also in how we think and experience ourselves in the world.

By the end of the weekend, you will have developed a deeper awareness of how subtle shifts in movement can transform not just your sense of your body, but also the way you engage with your environment and make choices in your life. Whether you’re new to Feldenkrais or already experienced in different somatic learning approaches, this retreat is designed to meet you where you are and offer insights that you can apply instantly and integrate into your daily life.

In the afternoons, we take our exploration to the nearby lake, where swimming becomes a continuation of integration—letting the water reveal new dimensions of ease, flow, and connection in movement. The serene environment will support your curiosity, offering moments of quiet reflection and expansive movement in nature, allowing the practice to unfold beyond the walls of our studio.

Small Group, Deep Exploration

To ensure a personal and immersive experience, the retreat is limited to 12 participants. This small group size allows for a balance between individual attention and a dynamic group atmosphere. It ensures that each person has space to explore movement at their own pace while also benefiting from shared experiences and discussions. Throughout the weekend, everyone will receive a one-on-one Functional Integration lesson, offering a personal opportunity to refine and deepen their learning.

The location:

The retreat will take place at the Fine Art Galerie, located in the heart of the old town of Traismauer, Austria. The venue is housed in a charming, historic building on Wienerstraße 10—an architectural gem that dates back to the 16th century.

Stepping into this space feels like entering a world where history and creativity intertwine. The building’s character is steeped in the past, yet it has been carefully renovated in the last few years, offering a welcoming and warm atmosphere that immediately makes you feel at home. The house provides the perfect setting for our movement experiments and explorations.

More about us - your teachers and organizers of the weekend

Caroline Ritter - Feldenkrais teacher & reward-based horse trainer with a background in Cognitive Science

My passion for learning and teaching—with both human and non-human animals—led me to the Feldenkrais Method. It offers a framework in which each individual is met where they are, with curiosity and respect for their unique ways of being in the world. My approach is deeply informed by what I have learned from my horses and through training with positive reinforcement, always emphasizing agency, freedom, and the joy of discovery.

Toni* Riegler - Feldenkrais teacher & circus artist with a background in film and media studies

I am a contemporary circus artist and Feldenkrais Practitioner. My work focuses on the connection between circus, somatic practice, and movement research. With a background in competitive sports, theater, film, and media studies, I take a playful approach to body awareness and exploring new movement forms.

Leonhard Grond - Feldenkrais teacher & visual artist and artistic researcher

I have a deep curiosity about all forms of movement and maintain a long-standing co-creative practice. While researching dizziness, I came across the Feldenkrais method. I am engaged in somatic learning, sensory cognition, and epistemic decompression.

Schedule Overview

Friday -  4 pm - open end

On Friday afternoon, we arrive and settle into the space—an old house from the 16th century full of history and character.

At 4 pm, we officially begin, welcoming everyone and setting the tone for the weekend ahead. As the day softens into evening, our first Awareness Through Movement lesson at 5 pm offers a gentle transition, a chance to arrive not just physically but also in attention and sensation. Moving with curiosity, we start to tune into the themes of the retreat—perspective, movement, and the subtle choices that shape our experience. Afterward, the evening is open for socializing, giving time to connect, sharing a meal, and settling into the rhythm of the weekend.

Saturday - 10 am - open end

Saturday begins with individual Functional Integration lessons in the quiet of the morning, allowing for a tailored exploration of movement. At 10, we come together as a group to start the day with an Awareness Through Movement lesson, shifting perspectives and deepening our sense of movement in space. Late morning invites us to explore movement research, where we refine our attention to detail and sensation. After lunch, we step outside—letting the afternoon unfold at the lake. The water becomes part of our exploration as we experiment with movement in a weightless environment during explorations by the water, followed by guided swimming. In the early evening, there’s space for another round of individual lessons, integrating the day’s discoveries.

As the sun sets, we gather for a relaxed evening, sharing impressions, thoughts, food and good company.

Sunday - 10 am - 4 pm

Sunday offers a continuation of our exploration with a gentle start at 8:30 am for individual lessons, allowing further refinement of our newfound awareness. At 10 am, we reconvene for a shared Awareness Through Movement lesson, followed by a discussion to share our insights and shifts that have unfolded over the weekend.

The experimentation continues before noon and invites us to explore new dimensions of movement before we break for lunch.

In the afternoon, you can enjoy the stillness of the lake or, if you wish, continue deepening your experience with optional individual lessons.
